Be successful even through the tough times
Much of counseling teaches life mirrors seasons.
The idea is reassuring when you find yourself in those frustrating “winter-like” seasons of your life.
Just as the winter fades and gives way to spring and then the delights of summer, so do the seasons in our life move on.
Ultimately, being successful and enjoying life depends on realizing that the hard seasons will pass, that you can endure, and that the hard seasons of life make you stronger.
It’s easy to see the benefits of the winter seasons in your life in hindsight, but how do you cope during those times:
- When you’re are having relationship problems
- When you’re are so tired from the seemingly never-ending treadmill of life
- When you just can’t catch a break?
Give yourself a break
We are the most critical of ourselves.
Most of the things we beat ourselves up about are things we think everybody sees. But other people aren’t even aware.
When you’re are in a difficult time, it’s easy to be frustrated with yourself for not being better at dealing with circumstances.
You get frustrated that you aren’t stronger, happier, or better at relationships when you’re dealing with the stressors of life.
But really, many of these responses are due to simply being human. Give yourself a break.
Unlike what society tries to tell you, you are strong but not invincible.
Enjoy the little things
When “everything” seems to be going wrong or breaking down, it’s easy to see life through a mask of “nothing is going right” and “nothing is enjoyable.”
But when you're going through a tough time, try to look for the little things you enjoy or positive.
Often during these times, we can miss so much.
We will never get any day back, no matter how good or bad it is.
Live each day the best you can, with what the day gives you.
Retain focus
Remember to retain focus…
Focus on the end goal, the light at the end of the tunnel.
It’s easy to focus on all the chaos going on around you. But try to keep your focus on:
- The things you’re working towards
- The positives
- The good things
- Your purpose
Focusing on positive things can put life’s difficulties into perspective.
Persevere
One of the best things you can do when dealing with these challenging times is to persevere.
Grit your teeth and press on with resolve because you can get through this.
Finding a sense of stubborn resolve is a winning attitude. Think back to those other hard times that you made it out of alive and with invaluable life lessons.
Instead of seeing obstacles as problems and opportunities to lose, think of them as opportunities to learn and grow in character.
Find support
Going through tough times can be done alone, but it is so much better done with others.
Other people can remind you of who you are.
Other people remind you that this season “too shall pass,” and they remind you that you’re not alone in hard times.
They can help your troubles not seem like the end of the world, as is the tendency during tough times.
